So Stars Align (Hoshiai no Sora) is about a soft tennis team that comprises of various boys with different family problems. Honestly, while they focus slightly on the soft tennis aspects, the main focus is most definitely the problems that each of them face when they go home from practice or school.
A father who comes by every so often just to take money, another who hates the son for choosing a sport other than soccer… a overprotective mother who does everything “for the sake of her son” and a mother who cannot stand being the parent of her son.
All of these problems are probably common in reality as well, even if we may not bear witness to them. In this anime, while the boys do their best to train hard at soft tennis together aiming to prevent their club from being disbanded due to lack of achievements, they also have to deal with their own family problems at home.
Even as they try their best, nothing is solved even as the anime progresses. Honestly, it really shows how difficult it is for a child to go against their parents. Especially since they lack the capabilities to stand on their own without their parents. Shelter, food, clothing and all the basic necessities are provided by parents to their child. Unless they grow up old enough to be financially independent, it’s practically impossible to separate oneself from their parents.
Even if friends know of the other’s situation, there is not much they can do. It is sad but can’t really be helped, the most they can do is enjoy their time with each other to keep each other in high spirits so they can always come back up whenever they get kicked down.
Honestly, I was worried about writing this article because I lack knowledge of these sort of things. I kept thinking, am I being ignorant of some important facts while writing this? Will I say anything that would offend anyone or sound illogical or overly pessimistic? I really have no clue… so I just kept it short and stated a few of my personal thoughts.
