Ascendance of a Bookworm – What Does It Take To Succeed?

Disclaimer: Contains screen caps from episodes 1-14 so if you don’t want to be spoiled, I recommend watching the anime first.

Honestly, there are probably a lot more things people would want to talk about when it comes to this anime. However, I feel that while the main characters are two six-seven year old kids, it really portrays something akin to a recipe for success.

While I could talk about how it felt like Dr Stone but focused only on book creation or what kind of characters make up the cast, I thought it would be interesting to see the breakdown of what allowed this particular bookworm to ascend.

1. Set your priorities straight

Without a clear goal in mind, it would be impossible to devote yourself to passionately work on whatever task is at hand. It is important to have one big end goal as well as checkpoints to make sure that you are on the right track.

2. Knowledge
Of course, it is impossible to do anything without knowledge. That is a given. So before you do anything, research everything you need to that could be even slightly relevant to what you plan to do. If you come across some things that seem a little far-fetched but could still be relevant, you might also want to keep them in mind to look into them in the future.

3. Ability to act
Even after attaining sufficient knowledge, one cannot do anything if they are too afraid to go out and do what they need to do with their knowledge.

In other words, other than simply knowing, they need to be able to apply their knowledge for practical use. While this may take some time, one must persevere even if they have to do a lot of trial and error to bring their theories to reality.

4. Gaining the trust of competent and trustworthy individuals

As much as I hate to admit, gaining the trust of others often requires a good first impression that relies heavily on how you groom yourself and behave around others. Even as someone who is rather lazy when it comes to appearances as believe that comfort is above all else, it is undeniably true that we live in a society heavily reliant on appearance for first impressions. “If you can’t even take care of yourself, how do you expect us to rely on you?” is probably what most people would think if you fail to take care of your appearances. However, after getting past first impressions and proving yourself through your capabilities, perhaps you might be able to relax a little. (not that I would know for sure, I’m unemployed and waiting for Uni to start after all)

5. The ability to delegate jobs and safeguard your interests
If you are a leader, this is especially crucial as you need to make the most of those around you and delegate jobs to individuals based on their own strengths.

At the same time, you need to make sure that whatever deals you make reap maximum benefit without minimum risk. Businesses are not a charity after all. You should always aim to make as much money as you can, whenever you can.

6. Planning for the long-term
While it is important to think of how to get enough money for day-to-day expenses, it is also important to keep savings for when you really need them. It’s good to start saving from young in case of emergencies or perhaps starting your own businesses.

7. Determination to not compromise on the important things
While compromising might be important in many negotiations in work, it is also important to remain steadfast to your values and fight for what you believe you absolutely cannot do without.

That’s it! Well at least that’s all I got can remember off the top of my head.
