Top 5 Reasons I Delete Messages

Recently I saw a post by Irina about Top 5 Lists and felt like making one myself. However, I’m just plain terrible at ranking things due to the fact that I rarely have favourites and can’t choose one over the other. Thus, making a top 5 list for anime or manga is just plain impossible for me.

My solution?
Come up with something that I can only think of 5 answers for.

The answer?
This post.

Well then, before you all leave from my boring introduction, here’s the top 5 reasons I delete messages!
(wow! such an interesting topic right?!)

I’m not sure whether I’m supposed to start with number 5 or number 1 so I’m just going to start from the top.

1. Message has been read but no replies

This is only for group chats and probably not something many people aside from myself end up doing. As a very self-conscious person, whenever I send something in a group chat that I’m not sure the reaction will be like, I’ll monitor the read receipt (check who has read it). If a certain number of people have read it but didn’t react in any way, I’ll delete it. Lame, I know.

2. No Longer Relevant

Sometimes, after asking a question, I come across the answer by myself before they have read the message so I end up deleting the message. I don’t know about you guys but something about just typing “Nvm” makes me feel I’m giving off the “whatever, forget about it” kind of tone to the other person. Perhaps it’d be better if I just followed up by typing “Issok I got it” or something?

3. Impulsive Messages

Every so often, I send things immediately after thinking about it and come to regret it soon after. Fortunately, these are usually sent rather late at night when most people are sleeping so I end up deleting the messages before anyone sees it.

4. Typo or Phrasing Error

Most of the time I just send a follow up message with an asterisk but sometimes when I want to rephrase my entire message, I’ll delete the previous one.

5. Sent to the Wrong Person

Such a normal reason! Honestly, I’m sure I’m not the only one who has deleted their messages upon the sudden realisation that you sent the message to the wrong person. This doesn’t happen to me often cause I don’t talk to many people at once though. That’s why it’s so low down on the list.

Anyways, that’s it! Those are my top 5 reasons why I delete messages.

As you can probably tell, I’ve managed to annoy a lot of people by always deleting my messages but what can I do? Messaging apps have that function for a reason!

Do you guys delete messages often?

Do you relate to any of the reasons listed or do you have other reasons not listed here?

Feel free to share in the comments!
